Chinese Crackle Glaze Brush Pot with Figural Scene & Seal Mark
Annihilate the landfill, hold your pens in centuries-old ceramic tradition
A proper scholar's brush pot (bitong) in the Chinese tradition, featuring a gorgeous Ge-style crackle glaze over hand-painted figural scenes of robed scholars in a garden setting. The polychrome enameling in iron red, cobalt blue, and green depicts classical literati scenes with architectural elements. Base bears a six-character seal mark. The intentional craquelure is beautifully developed throughout, with the characteristic unglazed brown rim. Measures approximately 4.5" tall by 2.5" diameter—perfect desk scale.
The D'Beetle Difference • Authentic Crackle Glaze Technique: The deliberate Ge-style craquelure creates a web of fine lines throughout the celadon-tinted ground. Brown 'iron wire' crackling adds depth and historical gravitas.
• Hand-Painted Scholarly Scenes: Multiple robed figures in traditional dress amid garden pavilions and flowering branches. Each side offers a different vignette in the famille verte palette.
• Seal Mark Attribution: Six-character seal mark on recessed base in underglaze blue. Likely 20th century production in traditional Qing style—priced accordingly.
